Through the Looking Glass Customer Reviews
:- 1.0 out of 5 stars from Meme7 -- the book and the delivery of the book : Through the Looking-Glass - Hardback. The book is totally charming in many ways and I'd totally recommend it. Sadly the delivery was not charming, as the book was left loose and unprotected in a box to rattle around, leaving it slightly battered and used looking. Books should be treated with respect. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from the early bookworm -- " The author (Daniel Singer) begins the book with a delightful and utterly fantastic (in the true sense of the word) backstory o : Here is a very clever facsimile of a faux first version of "Through the Looking-Glass." The author (Daniel Singer) begins the book with a delightful and utterly fantastic (in the true sense of the word) backstory of how he came to possess the handwritten manuscript of TTLG. It is an engaging introduction to his amusing story, which is the basic tale of Looking-Glass land, just not as fully developed as in Carroll's finished version. This volume is full of humor, and the presentation is quite attractive, with a full color Morris-style honeysuckle cover and calligraphy like Carroll's handwriting. The illustrations (by Jonathan Dixon) are reminiscent of Lewis Carroll's well composed drawings, with their inimitable air of skillful amateurism. Anyone who enjoys the Alice books will appreciate this homage to a favorite author. Very well done, and very highly recommended. ( Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2016 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Sharanya K C -- Weirdly Wonderful : Alice returns to yet another madcapped adventure. As Alice plays around with her kittens, Snowdrop and Kitty, she unwittingly steps through the mirror into another world reminiscent of Wonderland. Along with Alice, we meet the marvelous characters of the Red Queen, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, the White Queen, Humpty Dumpty, a lion, a unicorn and the White Knight. Through the Looking Glass is interspersed with oddly amusing poems like the Jabberwocky, The Walrus and the Carpenter, The White Knight’s Song and Hush-a-by lady. But the grandest of all has to be Lewis Caroll’s final poem…“A boat, beneath a sunny sky…” ( Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2016 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Stephen H. Zendt -- These picture-izations of things taking place in the story add immensely to the joy and fun of the whole work of fantasy/satire : While "Looking Glass" has been available to readers for many years, this edition has the distinct advantage of superb and colorful illustrations. These picture-izations of things taking place in the story add immensely to the joy and fun of the whole work of fantasy/satire. I was delighted to obtain a copy! It's just the sort of book to share with a young reader, or to read aloud while showing the illustrations. The artist has done a real work of comic and active art with skill and genius, to accompany Lewis Carroll's amazing tale of Alice and her Looking Glass world. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from LPower Inkhorn NLP Trainer -- Curioser and Curioser : One of the first books I bought on Kindle was the free version of Alice in Wonderland, which has no pictures. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2011 )
- 3.0 out of 5 stars from Caroline Lichfield -- A bit disappointing! : Now I'm going to be honest, I wasn't overly impressed with this one, I love the first book and had high hopes for Through The Looking Glass. It was a bit of a struggle to get through, the great thing about the first book is the silliness and fun of it, and even though you can see that Lewis Carroll tried doing the same thing with this book, it just didn't work out that way. - 1.0 out of 5 stars from john tricker -- Don't bother, buy another version. : Dire quality, the writing just doesn't make sense, it hasn't migrated to Kindle properly. A real disappointment, not having read it since I was a child I wanted to introduce grandchildren to it - if anything it would put them off a great classic. - 3.0 out of 5 stars from Pal Joey -- Not as illustrated as you might expect : I have no criticism of the book itself, as it is a madcap tale which is as fun to read now as it was the first time. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 4, 2014 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Rowan -- More surreal that Wonderland : Cannot recommend this book enough it is a joyous celebration of logic and language and should be compulsory bed time reading for both adults and children. Preferably adults reading to children. It has less narrative than Wonderland but still has many great characters like Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee, the Walrus and the Carpenter (the best illustration of hypocrisy there is). Talking of illustrations this book is full of them each compliments Carroll's words. On the subject of words this book is full of incredible word play and it is worth buying just for the poem Jabberwocky. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 28, 2013 )
- 2.0 out of 5 stars from Mr. David Holmes -- This is more like an intellectual being "away with the fairies" than it ... : Having procrastinated for 60 years to read Alice in Wonderland, I thought I should complete the experience by reading Through the Looking Glass. The former has some logic to it and something approaching a story line, which is more than can be said of Through the Looking Glass! This is more like an intellectual being "away with the fairies" than it is a fairy story! ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 16, 2015 )
